When you travel, keeping travel & vacation magazines on you isn’t a bad idea. You may be thinking that your travel blogs and websites that you read will do just fine, but that is probably because you have yet to truly explore the world. Really seasoned travelers know that you simply cannot rely on digital media as your only source of information for a number of reasons.
There are Too Many Bad Reception Areas
When you travel the world over, you go through a lot of areas where you simply are not going to be able to get any reception on your phone, and you will not be able to find anything but dialup internet, if you are lucky, that is. Most of the world does not even have that.
Print media offers a reliability that digital media cannot match. You can still read a magazine when the power is out and your laptop battery is dead, you can read it when there is no wifi, no phone signal and no dialup, and you can read it on a crowded bus in a bad part of town without anyone stealing it from you. Your laptop cannot offer you that.
Lightweight for Easy Transport
If you are in Sicily, for instance, you are probably better off ripping out that page on the top cafes in Sicily than you are trying to bring your laptop with you to read your favorite Italian travel blog while out and about. The simple fact is that transportability is another convenient factor that digital media cannot match.
Emergency Situations
If you crash your boat in Alaska, you can use the ads in your travel magazine to start a campfire while waiting for rescue. Okay, this is kind of an odd thing to consider, but when you really think about it, print can still do a lot of things that digital media is simply incapable of.
